Silver Fingerprint Ring

£180.00

Once we have your print, we'll handcraft and despatch your jewellery in approximately 10 working days. Need it sooner? See Priority Service. Tell me more

Our Silver Fingerprint Ring carries an actual print from someone you love, deep-engraved into sterling silver and made to your size.

After we receive your prints, we set to work. We take the interesting "whorly" centre of the fingerprint and deep-engrave it into a sterling silver ring. You can have one print covering half of the ring, or two prints covering the full band with a small polished gap between them. We can stretch a single print across the whole ring on request, but we don't usually recommend it — the proportions don't tend to feel like a true reproduction of the print.

You might like to add some words to the inside of your ring as well. Just let us know what you'd like when placing your order, up to 25 letters including spaces.

If you'd prefer a slender version, we make one in a 3mm width with a heavier wall in sizes up to P, here.

Please note: fingerprint rings are made to your exact size and can't be resized afterwards, so it's worth getting the size right first time. Our Professional Ring Sizing service (below) can help, or visit us at our Stamford shop or Biggleswade studio if you're local.

Professional Ring Sizing

Professional Ring Sizing

Professional metal ring sizing gauge set with UK letter sizes

Finding the right ring size can be trickier than people expect. Sizes vary slightly between jewellers, sizing tools and even ring styles, which is why we offer the same professional ring gauge system we use in the workshop.

Our reusable ring sizer lets you try different sizes at home, so we can size your ring correctly first time.

How it works

  • Order your professional ring sizer for £25
  • We'll send the most suitable sizer for your chosen design
  • Try different sizes at home in your own time
  • Let us know your chosen size
  • Return the sizer within 28 days of receiving it, using the included return packaging
  • We'll refund £20 once it's back with us in its original condition

Please note

For the most accurate result, try the sizer at different times of the day. Fingers naturally change size depending on temperature and activity.

If you're local, you're welcome to visit us and we'll size you in person at our Stamford shop or Biggleswade studio.

What Happens After You Order

What Happens After You Order

For UK Customers:

  • Taking Fingerprints Yourself:

If you request instructions for taking prints yourself, we will send you an inkpad and paper kit within one working day of placing your order. You can then send us back your fingerprints either by scanning them as a high-resolution JPEG and emailing them to us or sending them to us through the post using our prepaid envelope. Alternatively, if you want to take your prints yourself at home without a kit, you can use a soft pencil, clear Sellotape, and white paper, which allows us to receive your prints quicker. To see how easy it is, please see the full instructions.
  • Professional Fingerprint-Taking:

For those who prefer a professional touch, we offer an appointment service for taking fingerprints. This ensures high-quality prints with minimal hassle. Appointments are available at two locations with different availability times. After placing your order, you will receive an invite to book an appointment for professional fingerprint-taking. This option is ideal for ensuring precision and clarity, especially for important keepsakes.
  • Reuse Prints:

If you have previously ordered from us, you can reuse the prints we have on file.

For International Customers:

  • Taking Fingerprints Yourself:

You will need to take your fingerprints yourself. You can use either an inkpad and paper or a soft pencil, clear Sellotape, and white paper. Once you have taken the prints, scan them as a high-resolution JPEG and email them to us. To see how easy it is, please see the full instructions.
  • Reuse Prints:

If you have previously ordered from us, you can reuse the prints we have on file.

How We Use Your Fingerprints:

Once we receive your fingerprints, we normally work with the central, most defined ‘whorly’ section of the print, as this is the area that carries the clearest and most characteristic detail for making into jewellery. If you would like us to use the full fingerprint, or if there is a particular area of the print you’d prefer us to focus on, please let us know when placing your order.

About Fingerprint Rings

About Fingerprint Rings

Our fingerprint rings carry an actual print from someone you love, deep-engraved into a band of sterling silver or 9ct gold and made to your size. The whorls and loops are real, taken from the person, kept in the metal.

Once you've ordered, we'll send a small kit with everything you need to take and return the prints. We do the engraving in our UK workshop. You can choose one print covering half of the ring, or two prints covering the full band with a small polished gap between them, and add a name, a date or a short message inside the band if you'd like.

Some people wear theirs for a new baby's print, some to mark an anniversary, some to keep a partner or a parent close, some after a grandparent has gone. The reason doesn't change the ring, only what it means to the person wearing it.

A note on sizing: because each fingerprint ring is engraved to your exact size, it can't be resized once made. Our Professional Ring Sizing service can help, or visit us at our Stamford shop or Biggleswade studio if you're local. It's worth getting the size right first time on a ring this personal.

Priority Service

Priority Service

Each Morgan & French piece is handcrafted to order with exceptional care. We begin creating your jewellery once we have received everything we need, from your personalisation details to any required materials.

We understand that some customers may wish to receive their order sooner, so we offer the option to bring your piece forward in your maker’s schedule. These choices affect when your jewellery is created, never the skill or attention devoted to it.

Priority 1 – Express Creation

When time matters, your piece is scheduled for immediate bench work with your maker, crafted ahead of their usual making order. This typically brings completion forward by around three to five days, giving you a noticeably earlier finish for special gifts, meaningful moments and occasions where you simply need your jewellery sooner.

This premium service adds a 40% uplift to the base price of your piece (excluding any optional add-ons), so you’re never charged extra for choosing to include additional details or elements. It is available on selected designs each day.

Standard Service – Made in Turn

Your jewellery is handcrafted with the same care and attention, created in the natural rhythm of your maker’s schedule once everything required is in place. The same skill, the same devotion - simply made in turn.

Care Guide

Care Guide

We want your jewellery to look beautiful for years to come, which is why we recommend using a good quality jeweller's cloth regularly as part of your cleaning routine.

Silver and other metals are prone to tarnish. This oxidising process is a natural occurrence, but some substances in our daily lives will speed it up, such as soap, hairspray, perfume, food, latex, perspiration and even the natural oils on our hands. You should always remove jewellery before showering or swimming, as metals can react with shampoo, chemicals and chlorine.

To combat this, we are proud to offer an anti-tarnish service that you can easily add to your order. Our Rhodium Anti-Tarnish Plating Service ensures your cherished pieces retain their lustre and shine for as long as possible.

As with all jewellery, straps, links and clasps can be opened, damaged or broken if not treated with care. Please check your jewellery carefully when it arrives and let us know as soon as possible if it is damaged or faulty.

We provide a six-month guarantee against faulty workmanship or materials. This additional guarantee does not cover accidental damage, misuse or normal wear and tear.

Your statutory rights are unaffected and are not limited to the six-month guarantee period.

Questions about this piece

Which sizes and widths can I order?

Two widths, both D-shaped (gently rounded on the outside): 5mm, as pictured, in sizes I to Z, and 8mm in sizes Q to Z. For a half size, choose the nearest size and give the half size in Notes for the maker; for a size outside these, ask us before you order. For a slimmer band, our Slender Silver Fingerprint Ring is 3mm wide, in sizes I to P.

Can the ring carry two prints, and where do they go?

Yes. Under Design, choose:

  • One person's fingerprint, once: the print covers about half the band; the rest is plain polished silver.
  • One person's fingerprint, twice: the same print on both halves.
  • Two people's fingerprints: one print on each half.

"Front" and "back" in these choices mean the two halves of the outside of the band, and two prints meet with a small polished gap. With two people's prints, label each with the person's name; we need both before we start. For three or more prints, ask us before you order.

Can you engrave inside the ring?

Yes. Choose Yes under Personalise inside of ring? (£25) and type a name, a date or a few words in the box; we engrave it in a clear italic script. With two people's prints, we can put each name inside behind that person's print: just ask in Notes for the maker. For handwriting, such as a signature, email us the writing first: we'll check it fits, and it's £30 in place of the £25.

How do I get the fingerprint to you?

Choose one of four ways under Providing prints:

  • Please send instructions for taking prints myself: we post you a free ink kit with a prepaid envelope within one working day (UK only).
  • I have taken clear prints that are ready to use: for a print you already have, or one you take at home with a soft pencil and clear Sellotape (our guide). Upload a photo or scan of it under Upload your prints as you order, up to 10 files. The upload is optional: you can instead email it to studio@morganandfrench.com with your order number after you order, or post it to the address we email you.
  • Reuse prints from a previous order: we use the prints we already hold for you.
  • Book an appointment for professional print-taking: we email you a link to book a free appointment at our Stamford shop or Biggleswade studio.
How do I know a print is clear enough?

Look for clear, unbroken lines, especially across the middle of the print, the part we use most. Take several prints from different fingers, pressing gently, and send them all: we'll choose the clearest. Scan at about 600 dpi, or photograph one or two prints at a time, close up in good light, and send the photo at full size: it should stay sharp when you zoom in. We don't draw in missing detail, so gaps and creases come out as plain silver. We check every print when it arrives and let you know if we need another.

Can you use a fingerprint I already have?

Yes, if it's clear: a print on paper or card, on a document, or in a scan or photo. Prints taken by a funeral director, hospital or hospice are usually fine too. To have it checked first, email it to studio@morganandfrench.com before you order. Otherwise choose I have taken clear prints that are ready to use and upload a photo or scan of it as you order, or send it to us after you order if you'd rather.

A ring shows much more of the print than a charm, so it needs a clear print. If yours is faint or can't be taken again, we may ask for the original, mould or putty impression, which we'll return. If nothing is usable, we'll say so and suggest an alternative, such as their handwriting.

Will a baby's or young child's fingerprint work?

We recommend prints from children aged 3 and over: younger children's prints are small and soft, and often don't hold enough detail. A ring needs an especially clear print, so a young child's print is less likely to work on a ring than on a charm. If you'd like to try, take a print at home and email it to us to check before you order. For a baby, our Hand & Footprint Jewellery is made for tiny prints.

When do you start making it, and how long does it take?

The making time shown on this page counts from the working day we have usable prints, your ring size and any wording for the inside, rather than from the day you order. Allow time for a kit or sizer to reach you, and for your prints and size to reach us. We email you when your prints arrive and again when making starts, with the date we expect to finish. If you need it sooner, Priority 1 – Express Creation brings completion forward by around three to five days once making can start.

Can I use my dog's nose or paw print instead?

A nose print, yes: we've engraved dogs' nose prints on this ring before. A paw print rarely has enough detail for a ring. Email a sharp, close-up photo of the nose in natural light to studio@morganandfrench.com and we'll check it first. Choose the design as you would for people, and say in Notes for the maker that it's a nose print; there's no need for a kit. See also our Dog Nose Print Jewellery and Paw Print Jewellery.
